En la segunda puerta del Baptisterio, realizada entre y , Ghiberti, siguiendo el modelo de Andrea Pisano, la compartimenta en 28 cuarterones, y realiza escenas con una figuración que renueva originalmente las tendencias naturalistas del gótico tardío. Biography of Lorenzo Ghiberti
Lorenzo Ghiberti was an Italian sculptor, jeweler, and art historian of the Early Renaissance. He was born in Florence and became one of the greatest masters of relief sculpture. Ghiberti dedicated himself to sculpture after winning a competition in for the best relief design for the new bronze doors of the Florence Baptistery. The bronze doors, both the northern doors () and the eastern doors (), became the main focus and most significant works of Ghiberti's life. The eastern doors were so magnificent that Michelangelo commented, "They are so beautiful that they would be suitable for the gates of paradise," which is why they are often referred to as the "Gates of Paradise." A bronze copy of these doors, created by the sculptor V.P. Ekimov, is now installed on the north side of the Kazan Cathedral in St. Petersburg.

The son of a goldsmith, in Florence, Italy, Lorenzo Ghiberti would become one of the most influential artists of the early Renaissance. A child prodigy, he received his first commission at age Ghiberti multi-tasked much of his work including the doors for the Florence baptistery and numerous statues. He was a student of humanism and incorporated much of its philosophy into his work.
Early Years
Lorenzo di Cione Ghiberti was born in Pelago, near Florence, Italy, in (the exact month and day of his birth are unknown). He was well-trained by his father, Bartoluccio Ghiberti, a well-respected goldsmith in Florence. In , he was admitted to the "Silk and Gold" Guild as an apprentice, and by , had passed his examination to become a guild master goldsmith. In , he traveled to Rimini to escape the plague in Florence and received further training as a painter, assisting in the completion of wall frescoes at the Castle of Carlo I Malatesta.
First Commission
