Dinah Rose KC
Dinah Rose KC has a broad practice, encompassing public law, competition law, EU law and employment law.
Her particular areas of interest include human rights and civil liberties, competition damages claims, telecommunications, regulation (acting for both regulators and regulated parties), and discrimination law.
She has a particular strength in written and oral advocacy, across a range of different legal fields. She has appeared in the Court of Appeal, the Supreme Court and the Court of Justice of the European Union in many of the leading cases of recent years, as well as appearing in Hong Kong, the Cayman Islands and the European Court of Human Rights.
Unusually, Dinah has considerable experience both of leading teams in large scale litigation in a commercial environment, and of representing individuals bringing publicly-funded claims against the State.
Dinah was appointed President of Magdalen College, Oxford and took up office in September She will be the 43rd President of the College since its foundation in , and the first woman to hold the post.

I met with Dinah Rose QC over Zoom to discuss her experience as a woman in the legal industry. For the past 30 years, Rose has been involved in many of the leading cases in human rights, as well as public, employment, and competition law. Recently, she made headlines for her involvement in the Cayman Islands case regarding whether same-sex marriage was protected by the Caymanian Constitution. Her representation of the Caymanian Government in its bid to block the High Court’s alteration of the Constitution (which would protect same sex-marriage) was controversial and resulted in backlash from the Oxford LGBTQ+ Society and the Oxford African and Caribbean Society. Despite some student groups criticising her role in the case, earlier this year the Magdalen College JCR passed a motion affirming its support for Rose as President, citing “the importance of not conflating the views of lawyers with those of their clients&#; and “the importance of equal legal representation for all”.

Dinah Rose is a barrister and member of Blackstone Chambers. She has appeared in many of the leading cases in the fields of public law, human rights, employment law, and competition law over the past thirty years. As an undergraduate, she studied Modern History at Magdalen College and was awarded First Class Honours in She was appointed Queen’s Counsel in , and was named Barrister of the Year in The Lawyer Awards

BBC Respect at Work Review published
The Review was prepared with the help of Dinah Rose QC and Change Associates working alongside the BBC&#x;s own HR department. It was set up in the wake of the Jimmy Savile scandal to look at current BBC policies and processes relating to sexual harassment as well as what it is like to work at the BBC more broadly with regard to respect and appropriate behaviour for staff and freelancers.
Following recommendations from the Review which incorporate feedback from staff and unions, the BBC&#x;s bullying and harassment policy will be reworked to ensure there is greater focus on informal rather than formal conflict resolution. It will also reduce the time taken to hear grievances by two thirds. In a further significant move, grievances will now be heard using managers from outside the division where the issue has arisen.
Separately, the BBC also confirmed today that so called &#x;gagging clauses&#x; will no longer feature in new contracts. The clauses, which are not uncommon in employment contracts and compromise agreements, were not enforced during the Review to ensure that no-one was prevented from sharing their experiences.
