Early Life[edit]

Iain was born in apartheid South Africa, which he says has shaped his life and work.^[4] Iain fell in love with poetry as a teenager, when Dylan Thomas' "Do Not Go Gentle Into That Good Night" helped Iain cope with his father's struggles with multiple sclerosis.^[5] Iain struggled himself with depression, which drew him to poetry.
