LaFlamme was a classically trained keyboard player named Linda Sue Rudman when she moved to California in There, she met her future husband, violinist David LaFlamme (–), and the couple formed the band It’s a Beautiful Day in Their self-titled debut was released in , led by the soaring anthem, “White Bird,” a six-minute psalm the LaFlammes co-wrote in part about their experience living in Seattle. The song, the band’s only Top hit, has since become symbolic of the hippie era.
Their time together was short-lived. LaFlamme left both her husband and It’s a Beautiful Day not long after their self-titled debut album was released, and she pursued her own path in music. (David LaFlamme went on to marry another Linda, a singer who also joined the band, leading to It’s a Beautiful Day having two different Linda LaFlammes as members.)

It’s A Beautiful Day, with their soaring, unforgettable “White Bird,” were an anomaly among bands of the San Francisco psychedelic scene of the late s. With David LaFlamme’s violin as lead instrument, and the keyboards of Linda LaFlamme (now Neska) as the solid foundation, they stood out. Their debut album on Columbia Records is now a bona fide classic. But then, things went South for the band and for Neska personally. She spoke with Richie Unterberger about those days for PKM.
In early , the band It’s a Beautiful Day were in Seattle, remembers original keyboardist Linda LaFlamme, “in a band house that was very old, freezing cold. There was no food, there was no money, nothing. I was seven months pregnant. The first week that we were up there, I had the electric piano out. I was sitting on the bed, and just started playing some chords. by Jeff TamarkinLinda LaFlamme, who, as a member of the San Francisco band It’s a Beautiful Day, co-wrote their best-known song, “White Bird,” died Oct. 23, , in Harrisonburg, Va. She was 85 and died from vascular dementia, according to a New York Times obituary that cited her daughter, Kira LaFlamme Newman, as its source. LaFlamme, who was with the group from , had suffered a stroke in April.
Her full name, according to an official obituary posted online, was Linda Sue Rudman LaFlamme, but she went by her Hebrew name, Neska.
As a member of It’s a Beautiful Day, Linda LaFlamme, who was married at the time to the band’s leader, violinist David LaFlamme, played keyboards. She appeared only on the band’s self-titled debut album, which was released on Columbia Records in That album led off with the band’s signature song, “White Bird,” which was written by both David and Linda LaFlamme and sung by David with vocalist Pattie Santos.

It's A Beautiful Day Acoustic incorporated acoustic hot swing instrumentals and original compositions by Phil Lawrence, as well as classic rock songs by violinist and vocalist David LaFlamme, from the premiere San Francisco rock band, It's a Beautiful Day, including "White Bird". David LaFlamme sang, played the five-string violin, and fronted the band, spinning stories and yarns from San Francisco's golden era of rock and roll, the Sixties; Phil Lawrence composed some of the music and played a vintage Gibson mandolin; Ned Boynton, guitarist, utilized a unique open-tuning that enriched the band's harmonic tones; Ned Ripple from On the Air, added a hot rhythm guitar; Linda LaFlamme sang harmony vocals; and Jeff Martin plucked and bowed the acoustic bass.
