Lynn Johnston (Born in ) is the Canadian creator of the comic strip, For Better or For Worse®. This family-based series has been syndicated since and was named Best Syndicated Comic Strip in At its peak, For Better or For Worse® appeared in more than 2, newspapers in 23 countries, and was translated into 8 languages for a devoted readership of more than million.
Johnston was born in Collingwood, Ontario, and grew up in British Columbia. After living in Manitoba and Ontario for many years, she now calls North Vancouver, BC home once again. Johnston was the first woman to receive a Reuben Award for Cartoonist of the Year by the National Cartoonist Society in She has also received the Order of Canada and claims a star on Canada’s Walk of Fame. In , Johnston retired from For Better or For Worse®, at which time the comic strip was republished from the beginning and is now in its 16th year of reruns.

For nearly 30 years, Lynn Johnston wrote and drew For Better or For Worse, a comic strip that at its height ran in over 2, newspapers. Raised in North Vancouver, the cartoonist spent most of her cartooning career out east. She moved back to her hometown in , several years after retiring the strip.

Lynn's First Book
In , when Lynn discovered that she was expecting her first child, she left McMaster to start a freelance art business from home. During her pregnancy, Lynn’s obstetrician challenged her to draw cartoons for the ceilings above his examining tables. Before her baby was born, Lynn had presented Dr. Enkin with more than eighty pregnancy-related cartoons. These were to be displayed one at a time until her next visit when she would bring a new cartoon to replace the previous one—little did she know that he was carefully collecting them all. Dr. Enkin helped Lynn find a publisher for her collection. These cartoons were published in a book called David, We're Pregnant. Published in , this book sold over , copies! Lynn’s son Aaron was born in The following year, Lynn was divorced.
