Sherryl Clark told SATA: "I have been writing short fiction and poetry for adults for over twenty years. I started writing children's books through the encouragement of a fellow writer in Since then, I've had more than twenty books published. I am now combining my love of poetry and children's writing into a 'novel in poems' for nine-to-thirteen-year-olds. Farm Kid will be published next year.
"I also teach fiction writing and poetry to adults at TAFE. This helps to keep me interested, inspired, and connected with writers. My women's writing group, Western Women Writers, has been going for twenty years. They are a wonderful source of support and encouragement, and do great critiques!
"I find it useful to set goals—both in writing and getting published—and try hard to achieve them. My current goal is to be published in the U.S. An earlier goal was to create my own web site. It's now up!"

After moving to Melbourne in , poet and children's writer Sherryl Clark attended a creative writing class at the Footscray Women's Learning Centre. The Footscray writing class developed into the writing group, Western Women Writers. The group established the women's poetry magazine Poetrix ( - ) which Clark co-edited. After studying Arts at Deakin University, Clark worked for community writing projects, teaching writing workshops including self publishing. She was a member of Victorian Community Writers and Writing and also the Publishing Officer at Footscray Community Arts Centre. From the late s Clark taught writing in the Diploma of Arts (Professional Writing and Editing) at Holmesglen TAFE and at Victoria University. With the encouragement of Meredith Costain (q.v.) Clark began writing for children in I was born in New Zealand in and first came to Australia in When I first moved to Melbourne in , I attended a creative writing class at the Footscray Women&#;s Learning Centre. This led to my studying an Arts degree at Deakin University and moving into the area of community writing. I taught writing workshops and was an active member of Victorian Community Writers for many years. I was also the Writing and Publishing Officer at Footscray Community Arts Centre for 6 years. That first writing class developed into an ongoing women&#;s writing group, Western Women Writers. This group has been a wonderful inspiration and help to me over the years, and we produced forty issues of our poetry magazine, Poetrix, Australia&#;s only poetry magazine for women.
